Head south of Amman on a journey through the 5,000-year-old Royal Road to live an unforgettable journey in the Holy Country while crossing a range of archaeological sites, to be met by the first city, Madaba "City of Mosaic Paintings." The city is known for its amazing Byzantine and Umayyad mosaic paintings. This city embraces the map of Jerusalem and the famous 6th-century mosaic holy land. The map consisted of two million colored mosaic stones, depicting hills, valleys, villages, and towns down to the Nile Delta. There are other mosaic creations in the Church of the Virgin, the Church of the Apostles, and the Madaba Archaeological Museum, which depict the abundance of flowers, plants, birds, fish, and local and foreign animals, as well as scenes of myths and scenes of daily life such as hunting, fishing, and farming.
In Madaba, the features of rural life combine with the components of religious tourism to form a mix of interest to the visitor. Madaba is known as the "mosaic city" because it is rich in Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, which are still produced locally today. Its convenient location allows you to include it in your visit program to Jordan. It is not far from the capital of Amman, nor is it close to the most prominent religious geographical sites.
Madaba won the title of Arab Tourism Capital for 2022, after achieving the standards and terms of reference set by the Arab Tourism Organization.
